Artist Statement

A series of paintings may start with a thought, feeling or image. I start by determining the size of the canvas needed for the image and then constructing it. I work on stretched canvas, applying paint in the traditional way to create textures and evasive lines or boundaries of color and form. I prefer the fast drying quality of acrylic paint, which allows me to react to the emerging life of the painting. I am simply a conduit for the force of nature and creativity in me.

I start and do not stop until I have the satisfaction of creating something that I feel is beautiful to look at and has the quality to elicit interest and observation, providing the viewer an unhurried moment for one to think about oneself. This connection of the visual and spirituality provides a reward for an open, contemplative attitude. The experience created by the visual excursion around the canvas gives each painting its own identity and voice. Serenity and simplicity are primary goals.
