Artist Statement
It wasnt until she moved to Florida in 1986 that Mary completed
her first landscape drawing. The landscape was so different from
her native California; so dramatic and so imposing, especially
the light and the weather. She is still awed by the incredible
lightening and thunderstorms that seem to come from nowhere.
Mary began drawing landscapes by drawing individual trees as though
they were human forms. She begins with small preparatory sketches,
composes, reinvents and reworks each landscape. Most of her drawings
are quite large and often are collaged together from large sheets
of fine quality watercolor paper. |
