Artist
Statement
For
me art is about communicating with other people – reaching
out in a visual way and putting it out there.
My
work deals with large-scale sculptural ceramic
pieces ranging in height from 12” to 12’. Each piece
is a unique slab built sculpture. I focus primarily
on the figure, exploring the
metaphysical premise that man is the measure of all
things. My work should be viewed in that context.
I
use a signature crater glaze of my own formula
on my ceramic sculptures, resulting in a variety of
surfaces ranging from
shiny metallic finish to a crusty texture reminding
one of rusted metal or weathered stone. The
work is fired in a walk-in kiln that allows me
to work on a scale that is larger than life. The
pieces are fired to cone 6, giving them the
durability to be displayed outdoors year round.
